However, if you want to import DVD to Avid Media Composer for editing you'll be disappointed since Avid MC only accepts QuickTime movie files, .DV, .TNF, .AVI, .MP2 + .WAV, and sequential .TGA or .TIF, 2K, 4K, 5K film formats. To add DVD movies to Avid Media Composer, you'll need to convert DVD files to Media Composer compatible video format.

How to rip DVD movies to Avid Media Composer on Mac with ease

Note that this guide takes DVD to Avid on Mac for example. The way to rip DVD to Media Composer in Windows (Windows 8 compatible) is almost the same. Just make sure you get the right version.

1. Load DVD movies

First, insert your DVDs into DVD Drive, and then drag the DVD files to the program; Or you can click "Disc" icon to draw into DVD movies you want to rip. Alternatively, you can hit "ISO/IFO" button to import IFO files.



2. Select output format

Click “Format” bar to select Avid Media Composer->Avid DNxHD(*.mov) as output format.



Tip:
Before conversion, you can click "Settings" button right besides “Format”and enter "Profile Settings" panel to adjust video size, bit rate, frame rate, sample rate and audio channels.

3. Start DVD to Avid DNxHD MOV conversion and then add videos to Avid Media Composer

When all the settings are fine, click the Convert button to start converting your DVD movies to Avid Media Composer DNxHD MOV files. Whne the conversion completes, locate the results videos ready to imported into Avid.

Additional Tips:

1) If you want to edit DVD clips in Final Cut Pro X or FCP 7/6, you just need to choose the "Final Cut Pro > Apple ProRes 422 (*.mov)" as output format in the second step; For iMovie, choose "iMovie -> Apple InterMediate Codec (AIC) (*.mov)" as output; For Adobe Premiere Pro or Vegas Pro, choose Adobe Premiere/Sony Vegas> MPEG-2(*.mpg) as output.

2) If you want to convert video files like MTS, AVI, WMV, MKV, FLV, VOB, etc. to Avid Media Composer supported video formats, just turn to Video Converter for Mac, which can convert various video formats to Avid compatible formats.
